Class Descriptions

Puppy Kindergarten Class (AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy) Dogs 3 to 6 months of age. Socialized and handled by all the students in the class.  Teaches them to come when call, sit, down and get along with other dogs. Advice given how to solve problems. Learn about the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program.

Beginner Class Dogs that have no formal training. Learn control of your dog on leash, obey commands of sit, down and come. Learn good manners such as not to jump, pull or bite. Dogs should be at least 6 months of age and above.

Intermediate Class  Continue to work on the stills learned in the beginner class. Prepare you for AKC tests, CGC, CGCA, CGCU and Temperament Test.

Advanced Class  Don’t want to show your dog but want to continue training and having fun with your dog? You will combine games for attention, motivation and impulse control while having fun. Novice obedience exercises will be worked on.

Competition Obedience – Novice, Open & Utility  This class is for dogs competing in competition obedience. Helps your dog continue to improve their competition skills. Prepares you for the AKC Companion Dog (CD) Obedience title, Companion Dog Excellent (CDX), Utility Dog (UD) title.

Rally  This class will introduce handler and dog to AKC Rally competition. All levels, novice, intermediate, advanced and excellent, courses will be set up.

Conformation Show Handling  This class prepares dogs and handlers to show their dogs in the breed ring.  Ring procedures, tips and tricks are discussed. Junior handlers and puppies are welcomed

Scent Work Dogs learn to find scent in exterior or interior situations. This class will prepare your dogs to compete at scent work trials or to just have fun.  This class is a great way for your dog to have fun and build confidence.

Introduction to hiking with your dog  Learn about fundamental skills and gear needed to stay safe & have fun in the backcountry. Practice relevant obedience, master new skills, and prepare to explore trails in our vicinity. If you always wanted to hike but didn't quite know how, this is a great way to learn the basics and connect with other club members as hiking buddies.

Confidence and Skills Class   This class will introduce your dog to walking on different surfaces, jumps, tunnels, tricks and basic obedience skills. Dogs will work around other dogs to work on attention.

Tracking   This class is for handlers and dogs interested in competing in AKC tracking.  Classes will be held outside at various locations

From the AKC: “When an evaluator signs a dog’s CGC test, the evaluator is essentially attesting that the dog was observed to perform all of the skills at a specific test. Although we can try our very best to be responsible, there are no guarantees for the future behavior of animals or humans”
